- The Getty recently aquired a marble Roman sarcophagus dating to the third century depicting the Dionysiac Vintage Festival. The quality of the sarcophagus that shows the Italian cultural heritage of wine making is said to be in immaculate condition.
- Jerome Hayden Woods of South L.A. was sentenced to 5 years in prison for dogfighting today. Woods was arrested in January after authorities found 11 mangled pit bulls on his property. Since the arrest, some of the dogs had to be euthanized and other have been given up for adoption.
- After three years and $117.6 million restoration, Pasadena’s Ciy Hall was honored today as the first Municipal building to gain a top environmental ranking – the Gold Certification of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Congrats!
- Schwarzenegger was met with a barrage of questions he didn’t have an answer for at his Bay Area Town Hall. In what was supposed to be a meeting centered around his “no new taxes” reform plan, the governor dodged questions ranging from oil extraction taxes to commercial property reassessment.
- The Bottleneck Blog has declared its first winner in the Pothole of the week contest and it’s a doosy on Sepulveda in Culver City!
- If you haven’t heard, it’s World Environmental Day and this year’s theme is “Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy.” If you need ideas on what your carbon footprint is, head over to EPA’s footprint calculator and start shrinking it down!
- CityBeat is getting a makeover next week with a complete design and content overhaul. The biggest change is that, Wonkette, the politics website based in Washington and formerly owned by Gawker, will be printed weekly.
