Justices Deny Stay on Gay Marriages, Unions Begin on June 17

gay and same-sex marriages will being on june 17 as supreme court denied a request to have a stay on the issueThe California Supreme Court denied the request to stay same-sex marriages until after a November vote by a 4-3 vote, it was announced today. That means marriages may be commenced starting June 17 throughout California. The order becomes final on June 16 at 5 p.m., according to a press release sent out by the state's Judicial Council.

Last month, enough signatures were collected by opponents of same-sex marriage to put an amendment change proposal on the November ballot. If passed, the California constitution would define marriage as a union “between a man and a woman,” therefore overturning the decision.

Congrats Royps.

Let's hope the fundies don't go screwing things up with their ballot initiative come November.

Speaking of which, besides the "marriage to be defined..." dealie making the Nov. ballot, there's also a "minors need parental consent in order to obtain an abortion" initiative that will be on the Nov. ballot as well.

Two bad ballot measures to be aware of.
