Bus Stops to Get GPS Maps

bus technology in santa claritaIn Santa Clarita, transit officials will roll out a plan within the next nine to twelve months that will make bus commuting less frustrating. GPS tracking on all buses will fill up interactive maps on the city's website as well as ones placed at the city's 35 busiest bus stops, reports The Signal. Additionally, when busses are running late, the system will automatically notify authorities and text message or call commuter's cell phones.

Over the hill into the San Fernando Valley and beyond, Metro operates GPS and bus arrival information is displayed at select Metro Rapid lines (including the Orange Line). The Rapid Bus information can also be tracked on rapidbus.net (it is really helpful if your cell phone works well on the web). As for those LCD flat panels in all the Red and Purple Line stations, word on the street a few months ago was that they will start displaying next train arrival information by the end of June. But according to Rick Jager at Metro, the schedule is not that. "We're looking at the July/August time frame. But hopefully in July," he said.
