San Onofre's Nude Beach to be Clothed

State plans to bar nudity at San Onofre's Nude Beach, Trail 6

As of July 1st, Trail 6 at San Onofre State Beach will no longer by "clothing-optional." A few problems have caused this, one of which, is the popularity of the beach (which includes regular beaches). "It's no longer one of those remote beaches that is out of sight and out of mind, that few people go to," State Parks spokesman Roy Stearns told the OC Register, who says that "the number of people who go to San Onofre, in San Diego County, increased to about 2.5 million last year, from about 1.7 million people in 2000." But that's not the only reason.
Stearns said some rangers who work at the beach have complained recently about being exposed to a "sexually charged" environment. The state needs to be mindful or may face lawsuits, he said.

Staff members also have complained about "trash such as used condoms, pornographic material and adult sex toys, which has to be cleaned up by our people," Stearns said.

83 citations for lewd behavior and 35 tickets for indecent exposure in the area have been handed out in the last five years. As to other nude beaches run by the State Parks Department, there are no current plans to clothe them. "It doesn't mean they'll be closed down, unless there are problems that have developed that force us to focus attention on it," Stearns told the paper.

WHAT?!?! OMFG that's not fair!!! GAH! I liked going there. No tan lines for me thank you!

What a sad, sad, day for us nudies :'(

As someone who has frequented the clothing optional section of San Onofre with my wife for the last 10 years I can attest to it being one of the cleanest, safest and most enjoyable beaches in all of California.

The real reason Beach 6 will no longer be clothing optional---- A few months ago the head ranger retired and there was a change of administration. Those who replaced him are right-wing conservative radicals and will do WHATEVER IT TAKES to close the beach (regardless how corrupt)... Its that simple.

For the last 30 years this beach has been a pinnacle for California healthy beach culture.

The claims made by the new park rangers are most likely fictitious or exaggerated. Claims such as these have NOT been made by past administrations! Claims like these are only just now being made (in the last 6 months) These are carefully crafted stories meant only to inject culturally stigmatized keywords (porn, sex etc..) into an argument that otherwise has no merit.

In a cursory response the reasons given for closing the beach.

CLAIM: Lewd acts performed. Like the “lewd” act of applying sunscreen to a woman's back? Yep, a recent citation was given at beach 6 by a new ranger when a man applied sunscreen to his wife's back. (charge thrown out in court).
REALITY: Though often crowded due to its small size and growing popularity, the beach is family friendly. On a given weekend there are several families here (mom, dad, siblings and the family dog) I have never seen 1 lewd act in 10 years. I have seen lewd acts at other CA beaches,,, but never Beach 6!

CLAIM: Pornographic materials found on beach.
REALITY: Hmmm,,, let me get this right, someone brought a magazine with pictures of naked people in it, (wait for it...) to a beach where everyone is naked? I find this unlikely. I guess the new ranger just wanted a theatrical mechanism to use the word pornographic, and this is the best he could come up with.

CLAIM: Sex toys found on beach.
REALITY: On a beach packed full of families and professionals (doctors , business and lawyer types) enjoying their weekend it would be extremely difficult to make use of a sex toy unnoticed. Furthermore sex toys are expensive, why would someone leave one on the beach. This claim is stupid.

FACTS:
To find out the facts about beach 6 all you have to do is talk with local lifeguards. Contradicting the claims of the new head ranger and his minions, the lifeguards talk about beach 6 as being the cleanest, safest, and least troublesome of all the beaches at San Onofre.

Find out for yourself: I encourage anyone who is interested to spend a summer weekend day at the clothing optional area of Beach 6 and judge for yourself (before its too late and this jewel is gone forever). Just bring a towel, sunscreen, surfboard and a good attitude!

Note: Beach 6 extends to the barbed wire and fenced barrier of the Camp Pendleton Marine Base. I cannot speak to what occurs on the beaches of the Marine Base.
