Feds Say 'No' to Weed Humor

Legal Weed, it's beer from Weed, CA and the government doesn't like itThere is a city in California called Weed, "named for a man, not a plant. Abner Weed was a lumber baron who served as a state senator from these parts a century ago," writes Eric Bailey of the LA Times.

One local business owner, Vaune Dillmann of Mt. Shasta Brewing Co., put a double entendre joke-slogan on the bottle caps of his Weed Ales: "Try Legal Weed."

The federal government doesn't like that and wants him to cut it out and has rejected it by not approving the name. "We consider it to be a drug reference, and find it to be false and misleading to the consumer in terms of what may or may not be the properties contained within that product," Art Resnick, a federal spokesman, told the paper.

But Dillmann, says if the government has a problem with his slogan, then why not Budweiser's "This Bud's for you," which could also be mistaken for marijuana.

Whether you agree with marijuana use or not, this is just another hackneyed day in wasted tax dollars and freedom of speech/first amendment rights.
