You had the balls to tell him you weren't a fan, but not to ask him how he responds to being called a joke thief. Maybe he's already addressed that. I'm not a big fan of his either, but now I know the reason why-- I come from a different background/upbringing from him.

It sounds like he just realized how lucky he actually is to be in the situation he finds himself in and doesnt want to piss anymore people off or turn them against him. He likes his paycheck right now.
