LAst Night's Action: Lakers Demolish Spurs

Gimme Some Love
Lotsa love to go around on the Laker's bench. AP/Mark J. Terrill

LA Lakers defeat San Antonio Spurs 101-71. I was wrong. I really thought the Spurs would be well rested and completely shut down the Lakers. In fact the opposite happened. After feeling each other during most the first half, the Lakers went on a 9-0 run to take a nine point lead in the half. In the second half, the Lakers ran circles around the Spurs swarming like locusts around Tony Parker and Tim Duncan effectively shutting them down. And Manu Ginobli was forced to go to his right all night long. It was a very convincing win for the Lakers, but they have to remember the Spurs are a completely different team at home. Game three will be in San Antonio Sunday night.

St. Louis Cardinals leading LA Dodgers 2-1, 1 out, 3-2 count on Matt Kemp in the ninth. It's 11:30 pm and I'm ready to fall asleep. So screw it. If the game hasn't been completed yet, it will be completed today. I think. I don't know. I'm getting some snooze now. It figures once I closed my lappy that the game would resume. With the Dodgers trailing 2-1 with runners on first and third with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, why the fuck is Andruw Jones pinch hitting? This is a guy who's hitting worse than my grandmother and has a torn ligament in his knee. So of course he strikes out. Fuck Andruw Jones. Fuck Joe Torre. Fuck the Dodgers. I'm going to sleep. Dodgers lose 2-1.

LA Angels defeat Chicago White Sox 3-1. The Angels were out hit by the Sox 4-3, but the Angels made their hits count. Angel's starter Joe Saunders was bailed out time after time by double plays and the defense of third baseman Robb Quinlan.

Tonight's Action

St. Louis Cardinals at LA Dodgers. Kyle Lohse faces Brad Penny. I think. 7:10 pm KCAL 9, AM 790 KABC.

LA Angels at Chicago White Sox. Jered Weaver goes to the mound against John Danks. 12:55 pm FOX, AM 830 KLAA.

I was wrong too, but not about last night's game. I figured the lack of rest would catch up to the Spurs in game 2 as they were running on fumes in the 2nd half of game 1.

I was wrong about Lamar Odom. Some months back I suggested he be traded for cutlery or shiny beads or whatever. I am glad to say, I was wrong. I am now a Lamar Odom fan. He's playing with heart and gusto. He bounces back from subpar plays, or quarters or games whereas before he seemed utterly defeated. Go Lamar!!

I was wrong about Kupchak too. Not an idiot. I repeat... not an idiot. He couldn't snag Garnett, he gambled on Smush, and he gave away Caron Butler, but Ariza, Farmar, Turiaf, Bynum, even Kobe Carl and not to mention Gasol are all to Kupchak's credit. Dumars, Ainge, Kupchak... top GM's for 2008.

Ned Coletti on the other hand... Juan Pierrre? Andruw Jones? I hope I'm wrong about Coletti too, but I have my doubts. When you think of all the money the Dodger's could have saved on center fielders simply by playing Kemp in center. I don't get it. But then again, I've been wrong before.

Maybe you were wrong before, but you are not wrong now...

Ned now has 3 strikes (from my count) with Jones, Pierre, and Schmidt (remember him?). He has been great at not selling the farm to get players here. But he has, as you pointed out, needlessly spent on players that we honestly dont need. BTW WTF was that with Jones as a pinch hitter? REALLY???

You are also spot on about Lamar. He has totally changed my opinion about him from seasons past. He is tough, versatile and has been RIDICULOUS on the boards in Bynum's absence. He fits in the new Laker backcourt PERFECTLY. Granted it took Gasol's presence to really let him find his niche... but seriously, he is working it in the Triangle.

Let's take a moment now to welcome Jordan Farmar back to the 2008 playoffs from his brief coma in the last series...

Wow.

Any chance LAist can hire an actual Dodger fan to comment on the Dodgers?

Fuck Andruw Jones? Sure - he's underproduced.

Fuck Joe Torre? I can understand that to a certain extent. But he had to put someone up in that situation and was running low on options.

But fuck the Dodgers? A real fan never swears off his team - no matter the letdown. I would hate to see you writing for Chicagoist.

Oh, btw - GO LAKERS! SIX MORE WINS!

hmm i can think of someone to trade lamar for...

he's younger, faster, blocks more shots, avgs more steals, points, and assists, free throw percentage is lower and gets paid a LOT less and is a restricted free agent this summer....

JOSH SMITH!!!!!!!

send lamar and a role player for smith and a 2nd rounder or something...

that would be pretty crazy but definitely very unlikely
