LAst Night's Action: Angels Short of the Sweep

Santana Not So Happy

Toronto Blue Jays defeat LA Angels 4-3. One mistake was all it took for Ervin Santana to get the loss. In the sixth inning, Santana threw a pitch down the middle of the plate and a batter like Lyle Overbay knows what to do with it. It went out of the park, and that's all it took for the Canadians to salvage a game in the series.

Notable Notes

Dodger's pitching prospect Clayton Kershaw was pulled after pitching just one inning in his game with the Double-A Jacksonville Suns Thursday night. Will he be coming to the Dodgers? If so he could start either Saturday giving Brad Penny an extra day or on Tuesday at the Chicago Cubs in front of a national audience (the game is being broadcast nationally on ESPN). I now have a semi-erection.

From the 6-4-2 comes a very interesting examination of Jeff Kent as a cleanup hitter this season. It also takes a look at when the Dodgers traded hall-of-famer Frank Robinson to the Angels in 1972 which made way for young players like Bill Russell, Ron Cey, Davey Lopes and Steve Garvey. Let me just say this. If the Dodgers do not make the playoffs, they should look towards this history and repeat it.

I am always wary of bringing up youngsters early... ESPECIALLY pitchers. A position player brought up early takes his asswhuppin, learns his lesson, and comes back (hopefully) a better player. A pitcher brought up too early is scarred for life. Kershaw is said (and shown) to be cant miss so... we'll see. But really, couldnt he get his cherry popped against a team a little less dangerous than the Cubs? Saaaaay... the Pirates or Nats or something? On ESPN no less?
