The simple truth is that people are not inclined to get together with other people. Even if it is their neighbors. People are just more concerned whats happening within their walls than what is going on outside. Just as long as they are safe... everything else is secondary.

Yep, over here in West Sherman Oaks (WeSO?) the Dickens Street Neighborhood Watch was kicked off (again?) on Tuesday night. All of this was driven by a number of burglaries that have occurred over the past few weeks. The meeting was lead by Senior Lead Office Aguilar (I think) and a representative of Councilman Weiss's office.

Sounds like much of the information was the same: Be vigilant, call 911 if you see a crime in progress (no matter what it is) and call 311 (non-emergency) if you need to report anything else to LAPD.

I was also surprised to learn about the prostitution going on at the Dickens/Sepulveda intersection (behind the El Pollo Loco), I haven't seen it yet, but apparently it gets started around 10 am, yes AM... I'm a little suspicious of this claim though.

The meeting was pretty well attended (about 50 people) and although it turned into a venting session at times, I think it was a good first step for our community to begin to take ownership of where we live.
