LAst Night's Action: Lakers Get Resuscitated

Kobe Being Kobe

LA Lakers defeat San Antonio Spurs 89-85. The Lakers looked dead facing a 20-point deficit with just over 5 minutes to play in the third quarter. But Kobe Bryant and the Lakers found a way to go on a 14-0 run at the end of the third and overtake the Spurs in the waning moments of the fourth quarter. The Lakers take a 1-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals and host game two Friday night.

LA Dodgers defeat Cincinnati Reds 5-2. It took about a month and a half, but Hiroki Kuroda finally got his second win of the season pitching eight innings and giving up only two runs on five hits with three strike outs. Get this. In those eight complete innings, Kuroda only threw 99 pitches. Talk about efficiency.

LA Angels defeat Toronto Blue Jays 4-3. Vladamir Guerrero drove in all four of the Angel's runs with two homers, one being an Earl Weaver, to break out of his early season slump.

Notable Notes

Manchester United defeated Chelsea 1-1 (6-5) to win the UEFA Champions League Cup. The game was Chelsea's to win after playing better on the pitch throughout the second half and the two extra periods. Even in the shootout after Man U's Christiano Ronaldo missed the kick in the third frame, Chelsea captain John Terry had a chance to win the game in the fourth frame but kicked his spot-kick into the post after slipping on the pitch. Man U's goalie Edwin van der Sar came up big in the sixth frame denying Nicolas Anelka the shot. Man U becomes only the fourth team to win both the Premiership and the Champions League in the same season.

I dont know if Kobe TRIES to give me a sick stomach or what. His "slow" starts sometimes kills the Lakers. Deferring to teammates and trying to get others involved is ok but when the Spurs are out to take home court from you in GAME ONE!!! I would have liked to see more urgency. Jordan Farmar welcome to the 2008 Playoffs.... the bench was actually the unit that brought them back. 14 fourth quarter points... typical Kobe.

Some folks would say that Kuroda was due for a good outing. But it was great to see him go deep and save the bullpen a little . 99 pitches... jeez.

WHAT A GAME!!! My Red Devils were amazing in the first half and could have EASILY been up 3-0 in the first frame. How about Petr Cech on the back-to-back saves off of Tevez's header and Carrick's put back... Amazing. Honestly, Lampard's goal was luck. An Esien shot that bounced off of Rio's back and right to Frank. But youre right, Chelsea OWNED the rest of the match. The red card against Drogba was kinda weak. Overall I think the officiating was spotty at best. BUT WHO CARES!!! MANCHESTER UNITED WINS THE DOUBLE!!!
