Now That You're Riding, Where To Park Your Bike?
In January, Los Angeles City Councilman Eric Garcetti announced that City Hall and other downtown facilities would provide bicycle lockers, more racks, access to showers and a subsidy to City Hall staffers who ride a bike to work. Yesterday, Garcetti blogged that they have already won an award, the Rideshare Diamond Award, for their efforts.
In other bike facility news, the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition is hosting a bike/walk tour that is open to the community at the Van Nuys Metro Orange Line Station. It is part of a plan to improve bike and walk access to 6 transit stations in Los Angeles County. The meeting will be held on Saturday, May 31st, 10am-1pm at the Braude building.
Don't work for the city or live or go near Van Nuys? There is currently no bicycle parking map, but LADOT does have an excel database of all the locations that is not published. However, they do have a bicycle parking page for basic information.

I'm fortunate to work in a business complex that has an alt-commute subsidy program that brings about $30 a month (give or take) for anyone who gets to and from work by walking, biking, or using mass-transit.
Thirty bones might not be much, but getting paid to do something I love and would do for free? Priceless.
They're a bit behind the curve when it comes to adequate bike parking though. They have a rack in an unsecured area of the main parking garage and after my bike got tampered with a second time I now park it in my office.

Hoooray Helen for winning the award!
