Having seen Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on Sunday (review coming tomorrow), a film like National Treasure: Book of Secrets looks awfully pedestrian. Its two greatest assets--Helen Mirren and Diane Kruger--are woefully underused and the big treasure reveal at the end is mostly a big 'meh'. It might be worth a rental...might. The Flock got a theatrical release overseas, but it's condemned to a direct-to-DVD fate here. I've said it before--Richard Gere is one of the more underrated actors out there and is always worth a look.

The 80s were a strange time for movies and the Short Circuit series was one of its more interesting curios. Can you imagine such an idea working today (they're actually doing a remake)? What's more, can you imagine a world where Steve Guttenberg is one of the biggest movie stars in the world? What a time that was. With Sex and the City so near on the horizon, more Sarah Jessica Parker product is hitting shelves trying to capitalize on the publicity. Today, it's Square Pegs. Sarah is the big star now, but back then I only had eyes for Jami Gertz.
