After last Friday's urban deforestation of 2nd and 4th Streets in Santa Monica (see photos of it happening here), Treesavers, who advocated to leave the trees as is, are holding an over night protest on the front steps of Santa Monica City Hall beginning tomorrow evening as City Council meets.

The protest is "to demonstrate their sadness and anger with the City’s May 16 ficus tree chainsaw massacre along Second and Fourth Streets in the Santa Monica Downtown District," says the group. "The peaceful and legal protest will also be held to represent the community’s resolve to convince the City not to relocate seven healthy, mature ficus trees on those streets simply for design and aesthetic purposes."

During the City Council meeting, they will be calling for increased funding for "an enhanced new tree planting policy – not an enhanced tree relocation policy," as well asking them to create a Tree Commission.
