The Daily News database caused quite a fuss at my office, and some of my coworkers have co-authored a letter to their union seeking some type of action against the Daily News.

The funny thing is that they posted my salary less than what I make, so whatevs. But I don't agree with the fact about posting our names and departments.

Our salaries are able for public view, but it is my position and salary grade just to give a general idea. That would have been sufficient, IMO.

When wil the Daily put together a database of car crashes and traffic fatalities and injuries?

None of our L.A. public agencies seem to have anything set up to track this sort of thing.

The public deserves to know who they are paying, what that person does (ie. what they are paid to do), and how much they are being paid.

We're not talking private information. These are public employees and if you work for the public, the public sure as hell does deserve to know what you're being paid. Just like if you work for a private company, the owners of that company deserve to know what you're being paid.

Um...ok. So I understand how people want to know the salaries of city workers but shouldn't they have stopped at job title? Why on Earth does the search need to include the employee's name? Even though it's apparently public information (which amazes me), that doesn't mean the Daily News should be displaying it like this. I sure as hell don't think anyone else should know what my salary is.
