Bruno Takes a Walk

Bruno, an orangutan at the LA Zoo, wandered out of his pen for 20 minutes; world panic ensuedSometimes even a 300-pound orangutan needs a break from the dreary routine of life.

Bruno, one of six orangutans at the LA Zoo, decided to take a stroll out of his mesh enclosure just before 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon.

Although the 29-year-old didn't make it much farther than "a holding area behind the cage where a handler soon noticed him," his afternoon walk was labeled an "escape" and led to an evacuation, reports the Daily Breeze.

In fact, Bruno's moves made international news: "Orangutan escapes pen at US zoo" declares BBC News.

The endangered animal was, however, only out for about 20 minutes, was never in a public area, and was easily sedated by a handler. The zoo was reopened just in time to close for the day at 5, and no one was hurt. Well, except maybe Bruno's pride. He had to be carried back into his bedroom.
