The Pike - No, Not That Pike

Wandering through an unfamiliar neighborhood, it's important to find a comfortable place to down a beer and get your bearings. The Pike Bar and Fish Grill on 4th in Long Beach is one of those dives that immediately makes you feel at home. With great food, lots of beers on tap and Black Flag on the jukebox, walking into this bar is like finding "your people". It has the feel of a neighborhood joint that has been around forever, so it is surprising that it has only been in business for three years.

Not to be confused with local tourist trap The Pike at Rainbow Harbor, the food here is fantastic and worth a special trip. Chris Reece, former drummer of Social Distortion and the Lewd, goes down to the docks himself at 4am every morning to get fresh fish. The seasoning is exciting but not overdone, and there is a spicy sauce for those who crave an extra kick. The hamburgers are juicy, the hot wings spicy, and the house specialty fish and chips alone are worth the visit. The variety of menu selections, heavy on tacos, sandwiches and pasta, makes sure everyone will go home happy.

There is live music every night of the week (no cover) and iPod Sundays. Plus they are open late.Hell Comes to Your House on the jukebox is just icing on the cake.
