DVD Tuesday: Keeping up with Jones

Harrison Ford Wouldn't have been the same with Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones, would it? | Photo courtesy of Paramount

If you're as excited as I am about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (please don't ruin it, George Lucas!), then you've probably already started re-watching Indy's earlier adventures. If you don't have the existing DVD box-set then this new one is definitely worth grabbing. The movies are the same but there are a wealth of bonus features. The way I see it, Denzel Washington is well on his way to becoming the next Clint Eastwood--an iconic actor who slowly becomes a noteworthy director. Who exactly thought that Mad Money sounded like a good idea? I'm glad to see Francis back, but Youth Without Youth was only a half-success.

The Lovers - Criterion Collection
The Fire Within - Criterion Collection
Youth Without Youth

I guess the relative failure of The Doors closed the door on big-budget movies about bands. That's a shame because I would love to see lavish films chronicling the rise and fall of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd (Zeppelin especially). The ongoing attempt to legitimize Sean Combs as an actor must be stopped immediately! Refusing to buy A Raisin in the Sun is a good first start. Sure the version of Ocean's Eleven with George Clooney and Brad Pitt sucked, but the original iteration with the Rat Pack really, really sucked. In an age of increasingly generic titles, Duck, You Sucker and A Fistful of Dynamite are both awesome titles for a movie.

Led Zeppelin: The Making of a Supergroup
Pink Floyd: Welcome to the Machine
Autism - The Musical
A Raisin in the Sun
Duck, You Sucker aka A Fistful of Dynamite
The Cottage
The Rat Pack Ultimate Collectors Edition
The Big Trail (Two-Disc Special Edition)
The Secret of Santa Vittoria
A Good Man Is Hard to Find

i think i'm the only person ON PLANET EARTH who laughed during some of the scenes in Mad Money. and proud of it. sure it was really stupid, but not more stupid than a million other films. not that i'm going to go out and rent it now to see again.....

p.s. i can't wait for indiana jones either!
