Utah Jazz over LA Lakers 123-115 (OT). With Kobe Bryant visibly affected by a strained back, the Lakers managed to tie the game at the end of regulation after being down by 12 with four minutes to go. But come overtime, the Lakers could not ride that momentum. The Jazz in a complete role reversal got to the line 45 times as opposed to 25 by the Lakers. The series is now tied 2-2 and returns to the Staples Center on Wednesday.
Houston Astros defeat LA Dodgers 8-5. Dodger's start Hiroki Kuroda has his best start in the America. He was working on a no-hitter going into the seventh inning leading 2-0. With two outs in the seventh the Astro's Hunter Pence hit single to left field to break up the no-no. And then the game got out of control. Jonathan Broxton came in relief in the eighth inning and gave up six runs. The Dodgers would make it interesting in the ninth, but who were they kidding? It's not September 18, 2006.
Tampa Bay Rays over LA Angels 8-5. After the first two games being pitcher's duels, it was time for the bats to let loose. And boy did they. Angel's starter Ervin Santana got rocked with five earned runs in 5 2/3 innings, but his opponent Andy Sonnanstine wasn't that much better giving up five earned runs in five innings. The turning point of the game came in the sixth inning with Angel's reliever Justin Speier giving up an Earl Weaver to Carl Crawford with two out. For Angel's closer Troy Percival pitched a perfect ninth for the Rays getting his ninth save of the season.
New England Revolution over Chivas USA 2-1. Already recapped!
Notable Notes
First it was Reggie Bush, now it's OJ Mayo. ESPN has reported that OJ Mayo had been receiving illegal benefits such as airline tickets, flat-screen tvs, hotel rooms and cell phone service while he was in high school and at USC. If these allegations prove to be true, there is going to be a world of trouble not only for Mayo but for USC as well.
He really did put the "Gag" in Gagne. The Milwaukee Brewers relieved Eric Gagne of the closer's role this weekend. After being the most dominant closer in baseball earlier this decade with the Dodgers including a record 84 consecutive saves converted. Gagne said this weekend that he didn't deserve to pitch in the ninth inning based on his performance.
Ah the New York Knicks. Just as bad as the LA Clippers only with the media attention of the New York Yankees. So the Knicks have a new head coach: Phoenix Sun's head coach Mike D'Antoni! The contract reportedly a four-year $24 million deal. I don't know if it will work out or not, but this will definitely be something to watch for next season.
Tonight's Action
Chicago White Sox at LA Angels. Mark Buehrle (1-4) goes to the mound for the White Sox against Nick Adenhart (0-0). Make sure you look out for your blow-up dolls. 7:05 pm KCOP 13, AM 830 KLAA.

I dont know about you J, but the Laker game PISSED ME OFF. What is with the reliance on jumpshots all of a sudden? Kobe was 0-4 from 3-land in the all important 4th quarter. If it wasnt for Fish's insane shooting, the game wouldnt have even gone to overtime.
The Flagrant Two on Turiaf was idiotic. Fish got into foul trouble AGAIN in the opening quarter allowing D Williams to abuse Farmar who has been as useful as used toilet paper in the series.
If the Lakers want to close out this series in 6 (which is what I predicted) they need to get back to attacking the lane and keeping Fish on the floor.
Im not even gonna touch the Dodger situation. Send Andruw Jones to Vegas!!!!
This may be a stupid question, and I promise its not only me defending my beloved alma mater, but is it possible that other high profile schools have gifting scandals, not just USC? If so, why no media attention?
Manny hits the nail on the head, especially regarding that flagrant 2 on Rony. I think the officiating throughout the game was piss-poor actually. And what happened to the Lakeshow's passing game? Is it just me, or were the assists waaaaaay done in yesterdays game?
OMG COME ON LAKERS!!!!!!!!! COOOOOMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEE OOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!
Youre totally right Ali. Once Fisher went out and the Lakers fell behind early, the alarm went off in the MVPs head. Notice he didnt have the "slow" start like he did in previous games. But instead of attacking the lane like he can (he is totally eating Ronnie Brewer's lunch) he went for jumpshots (1-10 from 3... REALLY??) Plus, the team was HORRID from the line. Ive never seen anything like it and I hope I dont see it again!
As for USC... Im sure there are a lot of programs that do that but USC gets a lot of heat because 1. They are a top program that is winning. 2. They get caught or people talk. Remember kids, success breeds haters.
