MANNY...activism is about thinking as BIG as you can. I bike/bus on a daily basis and it is much easier than the societal concept of bussing and biking in LA. I agree...the city might need to start small, but it alway needs to be thinking to the limit.

FIX THINK--NEVER STOP THINKING.

The bikeways will take a while to come about... LA is still trying to get the public transport system straightened out. The best way (ie inexpensive and convinient) is bike and public trans. Improving the way these can work together should be one of the priorities for LA.

The whole idea of riding a bike faster than driving is pretty hyperbolic and meant to incite thought, then change. Obviously cars are faster than bike. We just want the conversation on the table and we want in between the cranberry sauce and the Tofurkey. Everyone is entitled to a portion of the conversation.

All this is about is WHAT YOU WANT IT TO BE ABOUT. I want it to be about LA's lacking bicycle routes and about LA's future bikeways.

My 14-15 mile one-way work commute between Silver Lake and Westchester is 20-30 minutes quicker than if I traveled the freeways and about 10 minutes slower than if I drove on surface streets. Regardless of how much faster or slower getting there and back by bike is far more fulfilling, invigorating, inexpensive, and enlightening.

As Stephen Box says: See You On The Streets!

it is easy to understand why its easier to commute by bike. There are many cars but not enough roads. Also, public transport is piss poor in LA which only adds to more cars which only adds to more traffic. Its pretty pathetic when you think about it.
