Classical Pick of the Week: Erotica LA

PianoKeysMacro.jpgThis week’s classical pick doesn’t really have anything to do with erotica, unless you reason that Beethoven’s "Eroica" Symphony ushered in the Romantic Era of classical music, which was said to have encouraged intimate and passionate (erotic?) feelings inside the listener. Anyways, the Los Angeles Philharmonic is performing this heroic third symphony (Eroica means heroic in Italian) and continue the year long celebration of Messiaen.

Pierre-Laurent Amard (I just heard a wonderful recording of Ligeti's Piano Concerto with him and Boulez) is unfortunately unable to perform due to a back strain. Peter Serkin assumes his role as the pianist in "Oiseaux exotiques" and also includes the "Petites esquisses d’oiseaux" for solo piano. You have three opportunities to make it to the concert, Friday at 11 AM, Saturday at 8 PM, and Sunday at 2 PM.
