Ditch your car today and take the train. Today is the first National Train Day, stressing the use of public transportation including our local train system. There will be events for the whole family including train driving simulators, arts and crafts, and a live concert with Nickelodeon star, Drake Bell.

Tarryn Teresa Gallery opens their new exhibit Distilled Landscapes featuring the work of L.A.-based artist Gary Palmer. Palmer uses the gallery as his canvas, creating a series of paintings that connect around the room. Artist reception tonight only.

HUNT
No, not animals. The Egyptian Theatre brings the movie-scavenger hunt to L.A. today with a screening of Disney’s Midnight Madness after an afternoon of scavenger hunting around the city. There will be clues to solve, challenges to perform, and lots of prizes.

ART (part 2)
Caleb Neelon Is Working On It, a new exhibit featuring acrylic paintings by Caleb Neelon, opens tonight with an artist reception at Carmichael Gallery. The exhibit will include over 15 new paintings, including the mural on La Brea that the artist created for his west-coast debut.

Head over to Long Beach tonight for a free book release party for Paul G. Maziar and Maust (from the band, Cold War Kids) new graphic and prose book, WHAT IT IS: WHAT IT IS. The party will have live music by Castledoor and Jessica Dobson, and a live reading by Maziar.

It would be a lot better/easier to use public transportation in LA if it wasnt such a joke. Something as simple as getting from the San Fernando Valley to the Westside is an adventure. A train line down the 5 - 405 from Valencia to Orange County would be ideal. Isnt the whole point of public transport to save time and money?
