Pencil This In: Friday

This is hot tofu. Cold Tofu brings their brand of Asian-American improv to the New LATC tonight.

THEATRE
Hot & Ready are two one-woman plays about dating and looking for love. And a few other things. Vanessa Williams’s “Feet on the Ceiling” are stories of a sexual revelations . Juliette Jeffers’s “Looking for a Chocolate Match.com” chronicles Internet dating.

FILM*
Lawrence of Arabia is on the big screen at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica tonight as part of the David Lean retrospective. The sweeping grandeur of some of his shots is timeless. Peter O’Toole stars as T. E. Lawrence, who “helped the Arabs revolt against European and Ottoman hegemony.”

COMEDY
Cold Tofu, an Asian-American comedy troupe, puts on "Edemame Nights" at the New LATC. It’s a night of improv, lounge singing and made-up karaoke.

READING
The New Short Fiction Series bills itself as a “live literary magazine.” Tonight performers including Sally Shore, Alain Benetar, Stacie Richards Dail and Jessica Hopper will read from Alicia Gifford’s short story collection, “Toggling the Switch.”

ART
Your Mom’s in My Business” is an exhibit of new works and “printed ephemera” by Kevin Lyons.

FILM*
There’s a great Sci-Fi double feature at the New Beverly: Forbidden Planet from 1956 and The Time Machine from 1960. Science fiction B movies always rate an A in our book!
