Los Angeles parking pay stations meters

What's the update on these? From the Department of Transportation (.pdf):

In Spring of 2008, LADOT will begin to replace an additional 5,000 on-street parking meters with advance technology single space meters and multi-space Park and Pay Stations in locations throughout the City.

Each parking space will have a designated number and the customer only needs to input the assigned number of the parking space into the Park and Pay station located near you. The Park & Pay Stations will feature easy to follow step-by-step payment instruction.

[...]

An added feature of the mobile payment service is that subscribers will have the option of being automatically notified by text message prior to their time being expired. They will be able to purchase additional time for their parking space wirelessly through the service, as long as they adhere to posted time limits

will these be any different than the units next to Target at La Brea & Santa Monica Blvd?

Could be similar, but not sure if the city of West Hollywood and the city of Los Angeles are using the exact same contractor. What's your experience with WeHo's? I've only had one and it blew.

Where will I park my bike?

Alex, I actually heard that there was a specific ordinance against parking bikes on parking meters. How about trees? Trees love bikes! But you probably have a u-lock, eh?

In the end, that brings up a great question and issue. Bike parking will get tougher.

went to h lorenzo last weekend on sunset strip. they had similar system and the machine is solar powered. you can pay with cash or credit card. if i can remember correctly minimum 50 cents with credit card for half an hour.

My bad experience with WeHo's pay stations was that I paid by credit card for two hours and then it timestamped my parking pass for one half hour earlier than it was, giving me only 1.5 hours instead of two. Then when I tried to pay by phone to update my hours, it wasn't working and customer service was gone for the night. Then I walked back to my car to pay, once again getting ripped by a half hour, but found a parking enforcement guy who said he never enforces them anyway cause they cause too many problems.

There are no less than 3 actual bike parking units within a block of Intelligentsia.

I just wish there was at least 1 bike parking unit within a mile of where I work. (Or a meter, or pole, or tree, or something...) It's real hard to keep a bike at my desk.

I hear ya Bekka. I work on the Chandler bike path just before Cahuenga in a building that has just recently been refurbished and they couldn't even be bothered to put in bike racks. But boy do they have plenty of empty parking spaces.

I have to lock up my bike to these whimpy metal fences all tarted up to look like iron.

On the subject at hand, I quite like the pay point meters I've come across (on Magnolia in NoHo). Just park in the numbered spot that has time left on the meter. Brilliant free parking! :P

There goes the neighborhood.
