Pencil This In: Friday

Happy hour is almost here
Happy Friday, everyone. 5 pm can't get here fast enough. / Photo of beverages by pink_fish13 via LAist's flickr pool.

FILM
Carbuncle is an independent film made over the course of five years. It’s about a director with Asperger’s Syndrome making a movie about a mentally challenged woman who is manipulated by her alcoholic social worker.” We think it’s a comedy.

8 pm // Echo Park Film Center // 1200 N. Alvarado St., Los Angeles // $7

DOS DE MAYO
Sagebrush Cantina is starting Cinco de Mayo early this year with a cover-free evening and drink specials. Music will be provided by Rolling Stones cover band, Hollywood Stones.

8pm // Sagebrush Cantina // 23527 Calabasas Road, Calabasas // No cover.

PERFORMANCE
The title alone of this event intrigues us: “Sexercise LIVE! A Tribute to Mille Jackson.” The cabaret style show pays tribute to ’70s R&B singer Jackson, most famous for her potty-mouthed, bitch and sexually explicit between song banter. It stars co-creators Kenny Melman and Bridget Everett. The third creator is Michael Patrick King, who was responsible for this lil’ show called Sex and the City.

8 pm // M Bar // 1253 Vine St., Los Angeles // $20 tickets and $10 food minimum.

LIVE TEEVEE
It seems that Sarah Silverman has come up for air from fuc@ing Matt Damon. She and her creative team and cast members from The Sarah Silverman Program hold court at the Paley Center tonight. It's sold out, so contact your favorite scalper for tickets.

7 pm // Paley Center // 465 N. Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills // $25 ($15 for Paley members).

CLASSICAL
It's Casual Friday. Even for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, where you can mingle with the musicians after the performance at a reception. Pianist Leif Ove Andsnes tackles Brahmns' "Piano Concerto No. 2" and Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts tonight.

8 pm // Walt Disney Concert Hall // 111 S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles // $40-$142.

FIRST FRIDAYS*
It's the first Friday of the month, and that means that the Natural History Museum has some learning and entertainment for the hipster set. At 5:30 pm, there's a tour of the Ancient Latin American Hall, and a 6:30 discussion by Leah Krubitzer, Ph.D., Department of Psychology and the Center for Neuroscience at UC Davis on “How Does Evolution Build a Complex Brain?” Following the learning will be music provided by Akron/Family and The Dodos.

5:30 pm // Natural History Museum // 900 Exposition Blvd., Los Angeles // $9.
