Mamas Get Your Drink and Dance On!

Baby Loves Disco, the hottest underage club in town, is celebrating Mother’s Day early by hosting their monthly party this Saturday, May 3rd at Social Hollywood on Sunset Blvd. Now hold on Juno, when I say “underage” I mean really, really underage. Baby Loves Disco was created for parents to be able to go out, have a beer or cocktail, and socialize with other parents without having to worry about nanny-cams and ridiculously overpriced day care. Moms and dads can bring their kids ages 6 months to 7 years to run around the dance floor, grab a juice (no gin) pack, and pop bubbles that blanket the ball room while classic hits, mostly Michael Jackson ironically, blast out from local DJ’s.

I’ve been to a couple of these in the last year. Before finding a permanent home at Social, BLD would visit annually at a random hot spot in the city. My first time out was at the Derby in Los Feliz. It was an odd moment double fisting beers, watching my son play with an Elmo airplane where Favreau and Heather Graham went down swinging. Yeah, there were some “beautiful babies” there, but the kind that need changing.

The scene at Social is a little different and a lot bigger. The dance floor alone is ginormous, so no need to worry about hitting the wrong rear when doing the Bump. There is a parking area for strollers upon entering (basically baby valet) and tables around the perimeter of snacks and drinks for the kids. The parents have another room.

At the back of the dance floor there’s a hallway which leads to sanity. The bar stands in the center of the room next to a cleared out area for the infants and toddlers to roll around on bean bags, hide in teepees, and play with a dump truck full of toys while the folks order up a cold one. The catch is that the prices remain at the club level. I asked the bartender, a young blonde holding a seltzer sprayer in one hand and a head shot in the other because you never know, what kind of domestic beer they had. She hit me back with Heineken. Oh, I see, as in Heineken, Missouri, right? Anyway, I settled on a Bud Light for $6.

Aside from that, Baby Loves Disco offers a little stress relief for us hard working parents trying to raise kids in this Fritz Lang Metropolis of a city. Most people are quick to get away from their spawn to enjoy a night out at the watering hole, but at least now the whole family can go out and see the party people mom and dad used to be back in 2000BC (Before Children).

The lowdown is it’s $15 per “walking human”. Non-walkers are free, so if they’re starting to pull themselves up on stuff now, get over there before you have to pay for them to do the Hustle. The party’s on from 11am to 2pm, but you can come at any time in between. For more information, check out their FAQ’s here.

Happy Mother’s Day…early and stuff.

so wait...you mean i can take my infant to a bar, get loaded and then drive home with said infant happily buckled into his car seat?

I would hope getting loaded is not the goal. Having a drink, socializing with other parents, and dancing with your kids is the point. Or don't have a drink...it's not mandatory.
