I've seen this happen in other places, when deer standing on their hind legs to browse high-up greenery get their antlers caught in tree branches and are unable to free themselves. I once lent my pocket cable saw to a pair of hikers in northern Arizona so they could cut away a tree branch to free a similarly-trapped deer that was still alive and struggling.
