Art Openings: Patterson, Griffith Park Aftermath, Serenity

Patterson-Oak.jpgFriday

As part of First Fridays on Abbot Kinney, Altered Space Gallery in Venice hosts an evening with Master Craftsman Richard Patterson.

Patterson’s artistic furniture made with hand made dowels, and other joints (not a single nail!) along with many other hand crafted tools is functional, modern, and a little surreal. An impressive Dali meets Herman Miller interpretation on practical pieces.

Invitations for this one night only exhibit of Patterson’s one-of-a-kind works are available by signing up at the gallery’s website.

Saturday

Colin Remas Brown was nowhere near prepared for what he would see when he ventured into Griffith Park a couple of days after last years massive fire.

Brown’s compelling photographs, an account of the devastated animal & plant life will be on display beginning Saturday night at the DRKRM Gallery. These sadly beautiful images are both fascinating and tough to bare.

This exhibit runs through May 18th and commemorates the one year anniversary of the blaze that destroyed over 800 acres of our beloved park. Learn more about this show in an exclusive LAist interview with Brown.

Opening Reception Saturday, 7-10pm.

New paintings from California native Kenny Harris will be unveiled at Terrence Rogers in Santa Monica on Sunday.

The vivid oil paintings capture subjects ranging from Venice Beach, Inca Trail, and rich indoor studies in their most peaceful hours. His use of serene color and light, give Harris’ works a distinct sense of tranquility.

An artist talk will begin at 2pm followed by an opening reception.

On view thru June 7th.
