Tonight at the Edison: Absinthe, Vaudeville and Incandescence

Lucent Dossier by Kelly C. Gallamore

Tonight the circus is in town...at the Edison. Every Wednesday night, Lucent Dossier, vaudeville circus/dance troupe, will be hanging from the rafters and performing on stage for the well-dressed Edison patrons in the upscale downtown bar's weekly happening, Incandescence. (Get it? Like the lightbulb.). To get a sense of what Lucent Dossier is like, check out an early LAist photo gallery.

And if the night isn't crazy enough, maybe a little absinthe will do it for you. The specialty cocktails for the event have been touched by the Green Fairy and will be served in vintage medicine bottles. The Edison mixologists reworked classic cocktail recipes and achieved the best way to accent a cocktail with absinthe without having it overpower it.

Here are a few of the recipes.

MR. PROSSER’S FORMULA
• Barsol Pisco (Blue Label)
• White Grape Juice
• Organic Pineapple Juice
• Lemon Juice
• Simple Syrup
• Absinthe

MOONLIGHT

• Gin
• Noilly Prat Dry Vermouth
• Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
• St. Germaine
• Lemon Juice
• Absinthe

THE 75

• Calvados
• Plymouth Gin
• Absinthe
• Monin Pomegranate Syrup
• Lemon Juice

For the hard-core who enjoy the taste of absinthe (blech) it will also be available straight from the fountain, served with sugar and chilled water. LAist Editor Zach Behrens, LAist News Editor Andy Sternberg and I will be checking out the wild scene tonight. Come by and say hi, or ignore us and enjoy the spectacle. But remember, there's no athletic wear, no baggy jeans, no T-shirts allowed. And one more thing, there's a $20 cover.

And one more thing, there's a $20 cover. Incandescence at the Edison -- Every Wednesday, starting tonight, from 9pm to midnight.I

On edison's website and it says tix is $15.
Is Edison charging admission fee on top of the $15? They're normally free.

Also, on lucent dossier's website, it says they're at the edison on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Weirrd, I asked Aidan, Edison's director of beverages and spirits, and he just mentioned the $20 cover, and that's what it says on the site's splash page. But I also heard that if you get there before 8pm, it's $10. Waiting to get confirmation from Aidan but expect to pay $10-$20.
