Major Fire at Hollywood & Vine Burns Basque Nightclub

Fire at Hollywood and Vine at Basque NightclubUpdate: The fire has been knocked down. Read the update here.

A major alarm fire broke out at 5:31 a.m. this morning at the famous corner of Hollywood and Vine in the Basque nightclub space (map below). When firefighters responded, the building was fully engulfed in flames. It is suspected that it started in the attic.

At 6:00 a.m., fire fighters went into defensive mode on the exterior of the building.

By 7:15 a.m., 115 firefighters were on the scene to fight the fire, which at that point was considered in the "major emergency stage," according to d'Lisa Davies of the Los Angeles Fire Department. By that point, the bulk of the fire was knocked down, allowing personnel to assemble hand lines and prepare to enter the building.

At 7:30 a.m., a billboard adjacent to the building began to lean, prompting firefighters to exit the building and discontinue the interior fight. No injuries have been reported.

Vine St. is closed between Yucca and Selma and Hollywood between Ivar and Argyle.

Basque, which is at the northwest corner of Hollywood and Vine, has changed ownership many times over the years. A popular Hollywood club, Lindsay Lohan held her birthday here and Kanye West performed here.

Good Riddance.

Basque was popular? Since when?

It's popular, just not to you... and me.
