Pencil This In: Tuesday

FILM
GOOD Magazine and Paramount Vantage Films are hosting an advanced screening of Son of Rambow. It’s a British comedy about a boy living in seclusion among a religious sect that doesn’t allow movies or TV. But when the kid sees his first movie – a pirated copy of Rambo: First Blood, his imagination is blown wide open. Seating is first come, first-served and you must RSVP by 5:30 pm today.

7:30 pm // The Landmark // 10850 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles // Free with RSVP.

Muslim world

FILM (Option 2)
Beloved, the film adaptation of Toni Morrison’s novel, plays at the Hammer Museum tonight. The story examines the emotional impact of slavery and stars Oprah Winfrey as a former slave haunted by her past.

7 pm // Billy Wilder Theatre @ the Hammer Museum // 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles // Free.

TALK *

An event at the Mark Taper Forum tonight caught our eye: “Who Speaks for Islam? What a Billion Muslims Really Think.” Author Dalia Mogahed will present the findings on a book she co-authored with John Esposito of Georgetown University – basically a Gallup poll of the Muslim world. It’s being billed as “the first-ever data-based analysis of the points of view of more than 90% of the global Muslim community, spanning 40 countries."

7:30 pm // Mark Taper Forum @ the Los Angeles Public Library // South Flower and West Fifth streets // Free with reservations.

VEGAN TALK
Author Rory Freedman has ways to make you skinny, and she wrote them down in her cookbook, Skinny Bitch in the Kitch.. Her book talk and signing are sponsored by PETA and Bruins for Animals, so it’s no wonder her press release reads, [her book] “makes no bones about the fact that meat is responsible for causing extreme animal suffering and making humans fat and sick.” Tal Ronnen of VegAdvantage will be whipping up vegan fare from Freedman’s book

7 pm // The Grand Salon @ Kerckhoff Hall // UCLA // Free.

SCOOPS
It's Free Cone Day at participating Ben & Jerry's. 'Nuff said.

Times vary // Ben & Jerry's // Various locations // Free.
