May 1st is Taco Night

Taco Truck LawMay Day will not just be a day for marching. It will also be a day to celebrate taco trucks.

After Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to extend the amount of time a taco truck can stay put in one spot from one half hour to a one hour, but also upped the fine for violating that restriction from $60 to $1000 and/or six months in jail, a pair of teachers began a blog and petition at saveourtacotrucks.org. Now, Aaron Sonderleiter and Chris Rutherford have declared May 1st, fifteen days before the law goes into effect, as Taco Truck Night.

"Take your family, your friends, or anybody else who loves tacos. Go out, get some carne asada or al pastor and support your local hard working taco vendor," Sonderleiter and Rutherford state on their website. "While you’re there be sure to hand out some posters and tell your fellow Angelenos what’s happening to our beloved Taco Trucks."

The law, which will affect unincorporated parts of Los Angeles County, has begun to catch national headlines -- TIME Magazine wrote about it on Friday.
