ART
This exhibit sounds like it belongs in the Museum of Jurassic Technology, but it's at the Gold Bug in Pasadena instead: Artist Lisa Wood constructs fictionalized case studies based on Chevalier Jackson’s (1865-1958) medical work, where he recovered objects from his patients' gullets and windpipes. Jackson’s found objects are on display at The Mutter Museum in Philadelphia, but Wood assembled “an array of Nineteenth century "potential" obstructions along with original era tintype photographs to recreate these worst case scenarios. The canvas for these tableau are ordinary dinner plates which hang on the wall amounting to thirty-three assemblages brought to life by an era in which medical technology first made good on their claims of 'miracle' recoveries.”

The New LATC hosts “IDEAS: A Conversation With Maria Elena Durazo.” She’s the Executive Secretary-Treasurer of Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, and will have plenty to say about the state of labor in L.A.

Tony Award-winner Tonya Pinkins (Jelly's Last Jam, Caroline or Change) and Tracie Thoms (Broadway's Drowning Crow, TV's Cold Case) star in Zina Camblin's comedy And Her Hair Went With Her about two friends who run a beauty salon. “The fun comes in when Pinkins and Thoms don various roles (and wigs) to also portray all of the salon's customers, exploring the diversity of African American women and comically exposing stereotypes along the way.” There’s a low-priced preview tonight.
