How Many Lanes Does it Take to get to the Center of a Valley Galleria?

Here's an interesting tidbit from Sherman Oaks. At the Valley's busiest intersection, Sepulveda and Ventura, you need to cross 17 lanes of traffic to get from one corner to its catty corner. Oy vey! Would this be one of those intersections slated for a diagonal crosswalk the Mayor spoke about last week?

And for those who use public transportation and end up walking many of these large intersections, Metro had a big meeting yesterday. One huge issue that will strike up some debate is that they began steps toward putting a new local half cent sales tax measure on the November ballot. If passed by voters, the money also could be used for not just public transit, but street and highway improvements.

Also, at the same meeting, Mayor Villaraigosa sought to find private funding for the 'Subway to the Sea,' the board voted on bringing tolls to the 10 and 210 freeways and a proposal to cut or reduce service on 29 bus lines was rejected.

I have seen maybe three pedestrians crossing that intersection in the past twenty years.

So you are proposing a diagonal crosswalk that will impede traffic even more?

PinLA, are you kidding? Have you only looked out the window 3 times in the past 20 years?

Even anecdotally, on the half dozen times I've been to the Sherman Oaks Galleria at lunchtime, I've seen packs of pedestrians crossing 3 abreast, from all 4 corners.

Can probably only see those over 6 feet tall from his/her Chevy Suburban (or high horse).

That or he/she commutes at 5am just before the 8 or so different bus lines that run through there start dumping their passengers at that intersection.

3 people crossing that intersection, sure - and I suppose Rudolf gets you to work huh.
