Last night the El Rey Theater was host to British music magazine NME's first US awards. You can find the list of award winners at Twisted Ear, since it seems like the sudden attention has crashed NME's website. For a recap of the awards show, check out MOG.
I was all about the red carpet! For those of you who have read my bio, you know it has been one of my life's goals to meet Alice Cooper. While we won't be having tea anytime soon, I can cross that one off my list. Check out my red carpet adventures along with the photos, and stay tuned for more coverage of the most spectacular entrance of the night.
An English journalist asked why they were all wearing black. I said, "Because they're post-punk." He said, "They are not." I said, "Yes, Perry was in a punk band called Psi Com and after that Jane's Addiction was post-punk." He said, "There's no such thing as post-punk! There was punk and that's it!" I said, "Yes there was, from around 1984 to 1992, there was post-punk." He said, "That's called new wave" I said, "No, new wave was concurrent with punk here in America. Just because your punk bands, like Siouxsie Sioux and Billy Idol became new wave doesn't mean ours did." And while we were arguing, Dave Navarro saw something shiny and wandered off. (Elise Thompson)

This is so great! Wow, Mick Jones is looking rough. I met Paul Simonon last year and he's still got it! ;) The post-punk vs. new wave part is priceless.
