Food Rationing Hits Los Angeles

Rice rationing in the united statesAre you a rice hoarder? Not anymore. Dramatic headlines all throughout the day are saying we are seeing food rationing of rice and some wheat products, a first since World War II.

Due to a global shortage, Sam’s Club "is limiting sales of Jasmine, Basmati and long grain white rices because of global shortages," reports the Orange County Register's Fast Food Maven blog. "Sam’s Club is not restricting purchases of flour or oil... The decision comes a day after Costco said some of its stores were seeing unusual demand for certain items like rice and flour due to worries over global food shortages. Much of that demand was coming from the Bay Area."

Costco has no plans to make an official limit, but may stop someone trying to buy an unusual amount. In some areas, the price of rice has doubled. There was also a matzoh shortage during the Passover weekend.
