After the odd news that broke this morning about the verboten action of snapping photos in Disneyland parking lots, more news comes out of the House of Mouse today -- in the form of transportation. Ray Bradbury may want a monorail in Los Angeles, but Disney is the only place you'll actually get some one-on-one action with it. And beginning Friday, "the first new monorail car in two decades — called the Monorail Red or Mark VII — is expected to open to the public," according to Around Disney, an Orange County Register blog.
The biggest change is the look of the train: The first electric cars have blue glass and red stripes that change color in the sunlight. The next two cars will be blue with purple glass and orange with blue glass.Bench seats will face the windows, allowing visitors a full view of the parks, Downtown Disney and the Disneyland Hotel. The capacity and speed will remain the same.
The monorail first opened in 1959 and in 1987, service with the current Monorail model, the Mark V, began. On Friday, the Monorail Red, or Mark VII, takes over.

i thought your lifelong dream was to own the Dallas Cowboys
Conan O'Brien loves that episode.
One of the Militant's operatives was a monorail engineer a few years ago. He'd tell the Militant stories about tires going flat, fires breaking out, the whole shebang.
where is the Mark VI?
and what will happen to the Mark V?
you know...Disneyland should buy more land around it and open a museum containing photos, video and cars from the rides and attractions that are no longer part of the main park....hell...how about the Mark I cafe...like the train car on sunset....
LA would be a better place to live, work, commute, interact with other races and cultures and BREATHE if the street car was put back.
I don't know for sure, but the Mark VI could have been put in place at Disneyworld.
Kudos to your streetcar comment 90039
Thanks Laist for the link love to my monorail post. I'm a regular reader of this fine blog. Also - thanks for the tip on Helsinki playing tonight at the Echo. I love Helsinki and can't wait for the show!
