Green Apple Festival w/ Juliette and the Licks @ Santa Monica Pier, 4/20/08

Juliette and the Licks

This past weekend, the Green Apple Festival (MySpace), billed as "America's Largest Earth Day Celebration," was held in eight cities across the country (with the exception of Washington D.C., which was reportedly rained out), including here in Los Angeles.

Performing live music on Sunday at the Santa Monica Pier were the Frequency (MySpace), School of Rock Hollywood All-Stars, Escalera (MySpace), Juliette and the Licks (MySpace), Ziggy Marley (MySpace), and Taj Majal (MySpace).

Actress Amy Smart, who has been a member of the Surfrider Foundation for 13 years and is on their board of directors, threw reusable shopping bags (Santa Monica's citywide ban on plastic shopping bags goes into effect on May 1st) out to the crowd, and introduced Juliette Lewis' band, who performed nearly an hour long set that concluded with their most well-known song, "You're Speaking My Language."

Today at 5:00 PM PT, MySpace will be broadcasting highlights from the festival.

Special thanks to Juliette and the Licks and the Green Apple Festival.
