CLASSICAL
The LA Phil’s free “Neighborhood Concert” series brings music to local schools, churches and other local venues. Tonight, classical music fills St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Ticket requests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The one-hour concert performance is presented without an intermission. Parking is available at 2727 West Pico Blvd (corner of Pico and Fedora) and also at 15th St. and Mariposa (free).

UCLA Film and Television Archive’s occasional series "The Movie That Inspired Me" continues tonight with Academy Award-winning director John Lasseter (Toy Story, Cars). Now the Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation, Lasseter will be in attendance, screening Dumbo (1941) and a special program of animated shorts for the evening. The Archive’s Honorary Chairman and series curator Curtis Hanson hosts.

TALK
School food is a major part of many children's diet, and, for many, it's not doing their health a lot of favors. There’s a panel discussion tonight at the Center for Healthy Communities to figure out ways to make school food healthier – and not the Diet Coke and Twix Bar lunches we had. Schools need to do something since childhood obesity rates are skyrocketing. Moira Beery, program manager for the farm to institution project at Center for Food & Justice, will moderate the discussion.

The film Bagdad Café is an unlikely story of friendship between a Bavarian housewife (Marianne Saegebrecht) and a burned-out inn-keeper (CCH Pounder) in the Mojave Desert. “It also offers a renewed, endearingly quirky vision of America as a land with room for self discovery and individuality.”
