Photo Preview: 4th Annual Green Gardens Tour

This upcoming Saturday, April 26th, marks the 4th Annual Green Gardens Tour, which gives attendees a backstage pass to see six home gardens on the Westside that "demonstrate sustainable designs, practices, and technologies." With conservation issues a hot-topic in the Los Angeles area--and all over the world--the tour is a wonderful hands-on opportunity to see what some people have done in their own yards to pitch in to save our precious resources while creating beautiful and inviting landscapes. All of the gardens are professionally designed, but not only will attendees get to take home the Green Sourcebook that's loaded with valuable information (like plant lists!), they can hear lectures and demos on the tour all focused on this year's theme, which is Gardening With Intent.

Tour-goers will move from home to home on the self-guided tour at their leisure from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Tickets to the expert-hosted van tour and luncheon are already sold out.)

Ticket info: Advance tickets are $40, Seniors: $30, and Students: $25. Members of registered gardening and environmental groups can also receive a discounted ticket price for their members. Tickets can be purchased the day of the tour for $50. For more info, and to order tickets, call the Virginia Avenue Project offices at (310) 264-4224, or the Project’s website and click on the Green Gardens link.

The tour is held as a benefit for the Virginia Avenue Project, which is a non-profit based in Santa Monica that helps kids through free after-school arts education.

LAist was extremely fortunate to get a personalized preview of three of the amazing gardens on this year's tour, and can give you a sneak peek photo essay. We'll be talking a lot more on LAist about ways to conserve, what's being said and done around our city on the topic, and how you can get your own garden a little "greener."

The beautiful succulent garden in Pacific Palisades that is part of the Green Garden Tour this coming Saturday, April 26th was not designed by me. It was designed by Mary Ev and the late Boyd
Walker - I am only the docent for this garden.

My apologies for the error, Stephanie. I have corrected the text. There is so much to drink in and soak up when looking at this and all the other marvelous gardens and then getting it all assembled and on the site that I was bound to get something wrong, no matter how meticulous I strove to be.

I hope the Green Gardens Tour is a rousing success this year. It's hard to do the gardens justice in text and images! You guys have to see them in person, trust me!
