Some of them are more obvious too; like Echo Mountain House and the old zoo. Even though they aren't actually hidden, it can be pretty exciting to go discover those places for yourself.

Thre is so much hidden away throughout the Santa Monica Mountains.

The old Huntington Harford estate, the old Nazi ruins in the Palisades, another old Hollywood Hills foundation I have yet to be able to locate, the REAL Malibu Castle, an ancient graveyard in Santa Monica Canyon, the hidden bunkers in Laural Canyon, old Nike missle sites, a secret valley with an entire compound of 1920's structures - complete with a home with pre-Nazi swastikas, a concrete lined lake and an old gas pump plus many other places you would never suspect could still exist.

This is really interesting. No one ever expects these kind of things from LA. In fact I'm a little bit suspicious. For all I know this could have been set up by Governor Arnold's office.

The world is full of these hidden secret places that make you feel like you've found your own Secret Garden. In College I found a stairwell with letters of love, loss, friendship and hope written on the concrete walls in pencil and pen.
It's these places that the past catches up with us and sometimes it's ok to leave a piece of your present for the future to find.
Beautiful.

This is a great story and I love your pictures! In PDX there were all these crazy drawings on the pilings of a bridges off ramp that got torn down and rebuilt. I have pics of them and thankfully they can still be seen in Gus Van Sant's "Drugstore Cowboy". It's a shame they're gone though. It's exciting to find little gems like this, isn't it?

But, but, but, I thought L.A. is vacant, superficial, and has no history!
