LAst Night's Action: Dodger's Bats Continue On

Kemp Avoids a Tag by Playing Dead

LA Dodgers defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 8-1. I left work late, so I missed the six runs the Dodgers scored in the first two innings. Apparently Matt Kemp avoided a run down by playing dead. Really. Brad Penny pitched a strong 5 2/3 innings and closer Takashi Saito pitched a perfect ninth to come back from his disastrous outing Monday night. James Loney has now gotten a hit in the first 15 games, and Rafael Furcal went 4-4 with a walk tonight.

Kansas City Royals defeat LA Angels 3-2. The Royals' pitchers continue to dominate their way through the AL as Gil Meche notched his first win going six innings and giving up two earned runs on six hits. Jered Weaver gave up three runs in the first two innings but calmed down to pitch six innings giving up 10 runs. Let's see how long the Royals last.

Houston Rockets defeat LA Clippers 93-75. IT'S OVER!!!!!!! The Clippers can go back to the cellar and collect themselves.

Notable Notes

I got an email this morning from a reader asking me what I mean when I said that Saito gave up the Earl Weaver to blow his save Monday night. Back in the 70s Earl Weaver, manager of the Baltimore Orioles, went against conventional wisdom with regards to the clean up hitter. Usually the clean up hitter bats fourth with the theory that the first three hitters will get on base. The clean up hitter hits a grand slam and brings everyone home.

Earl Weaver thought this wasn't practical, so his offensive theory was getting the three-run homer.

Because I love how Earl Weaver was a surly old man and argued with every umpire, I have taken to calling the three-run homer an "Earl Weaver". You should too.

Ed Roski, a part owner of the LA Kings and LA Lakers, has scheduled a press conference today his plan to lure an NFL franchise to LA. It involves building a stadium in the City of Industry that is surrounded by a high-end shopping mall. I'm very skeptical about this since nothing has been agreed upon in the last 13 years we've been with an NFL team. But if this were to go through the franchise most likely to arrive here is the Jacksonville Jaguars. Don't ask me why.

Tommy Lasorda was invited to Washington DC to meet the pope. I wonder what Pope Benedict thought when Lasorda told him that he wouldn't get into heaven if he didn't root for the Dodgers.

Tonight's Action

Kansas City Royals at LA Angels. I just looked at the starting pitcher for the Royals and had a chuckle. Brett "Bombko" Tomko makes his LA return to face Jon Garland. Knowing how Bombko pitches and seeing how Garland has been pitching lately, I predict the score to be 43-20. 7:05 pm FSN West, AM 830 KLAA.

Anaheim Ducks at Dallas Stars. The Ducks hope to continue their smarter play from Tuesday night to tie the series back up. Chris Perry is probable to play for the Ducks which would be a huge boost for the Ducks offensive woes.

am i the only clippers fan here?

Im still really mad about the Mike Miller debacle

Ideally they should pick up a point guard in either the draft (mayo/rose) but id rather have baron davis or gilbert arenas who can both opt out. getting one of these guys bring some credibility/marketability for the clippers right away, even if arenas has injury issues. the free agent class this year is pretty huge so if they manage to get a big time point guard and draft a young big man to back up kaman they will be pretty legit. add a veteran shooter and maybe pry steve francis (good friend of mobley) from houston since he was always on the inactive list for another PG and you're set. provided that livingston returns from the injury.

dropping maggette would do wonders for them, they already have thornton blossoming and use that money to add more money for brand and the veteran player. the free agent class this summer is pretty good this year.

but knowing the clippers they will hoard all their money, resign smush parker and sign kwame brown back (LOL).

i'm a fan but I'm also used to failure and disappointed. luckily theres another team in town to keep my mind off of that...
