If You See God, This Girl Will Kill You

crimeYou won't be seeing the 21-year-old Valencia resident, Samantha Rothwell, for about 16 years because yesterday she was convicted of second-degree murder for the death of an 18-year-old man who made a comment about God. In 2006, a group of friends gathered at Hotel Huntington Beach for a birthday celebration and to go to the beach the next day. Then...

As the evening progressed, several people, including Rothwell and 18-year-old Walter Rivas, were on the hotel balcony smoking, [Senior Deputy District Attorney Sonia] Balleste said. During a conversation Rivas remarked that the last time he was in Huntington Beach he had "seen God."

Rothwell got mad and said, "I'm the devil and don't talk about God or I'll stab you," before going to her room, returning with a small pocket knife from her purse and stabbing Rivas in the jugular vein and back, Balleste said.

"She went for the jugular and got it," Balleste said.

Rothwell told the others that what had happened was "no big deal," that they needed "to get over it" and "go to hell." She then went to a McDonald's restaurant before returning home to Valencia, Balleste said. [Daily News]

The wounds were severe enough that if Rivas was already in a hospital and not immediately taken to the emergency room, he would have died.

At least she stopped at McDonalds.

This makes the story more normal.

"she was convicted of second-degree murder...wounds were severe enough that if Rivas was already in a hospital and not immediately taken to the emergency room, he would have died." Well? Did she or didnt she kill him? WTF?!

it was a hypothetical, sorry, I know it's confusing. Even if he were stabbed in the hospital, good chances were that he would still die unless brought to the emergency room right away.

sober people don't get into altercations like this. sounds like they were high on meth and had probably been up for a few days. talking about god, thinking youre the devil... thats drugs for you.

Drugs, booze or not this woman showed no remorse while sentenced in court and had done this before on a dare. She needs to be locked up until she can get some psychological help.

i guess since shes saying shes the devil that this would still be religious extremism?

i dont think locking her up will help at all.

At least it will keep her out of the general population from hurting anyone.

If she's the devil then let her stay in prison and see what hell is really like. May be someone in prison will do us all a favor and shank her in the neck.

no one was high on meth.
