Conserve the Amount of Water a Small City Uses

water_conservation.gifThe Metropolitan Water District is asking residents to conserve water by watering their lawns one day less a week, according to KNBC. If that happens, the water saved could equal "as much water as the cities of Anaheim, Burbank, Long Beach and Pasadena use in one year."

A 13-week advertising campaign is being launched to request voluntary conservation. And while watering the lawn is something many do, apartment dwellers do not have to deal with that directly. So what can one do? Here are a few ideas:

  • The obvious: Don't leave the water running while brushing your teeth
  • The obvious, part two: Hey asshole, stop watering the sidewalk.
  • Middle-Ground: If you have a half decent dishwasher, you really don't need to wash or rinse your dishes clean AND THEN put them in the dishwasher. Choose one, not both.
  • For the hardcore: "If it's yellow, mellow; if it's brown, flush it down." At first, reaching for the handle is a hard habit to break, but you'll get the hang of it.
