TV Junkie: Wednesday

The Real World: HollywoodMTV's "The Real World" returns for its 20th season which is scary because I remember the premiere of this show back in 1992. My roommates and I, and our significant others (or not) would get together and watch the show which seemed scarily innovative at the time - _anything_ could happen! From being an innovator in reality programming to just another in a field of crowded participants, another season of "The Real World" seems like beating a dead horse. Now that "Big Brother" owns this genre it makes one wonder if/when MTV will ever get back to some actual music programming. Maybe Los Angelinos will be compelled to watch some of this because it's based in Hollywood for this round.

7:00pm The General TCM - (1927) One of the best silent films ever made, of course, by Buster Keaton.

8:00pm Democratic Presidential Debate in Philadelphia ABC - Wondering why these keep going on, it's less democracy and more torture at this point.

8:00pm America's Next Top Model CW - Paulina offers the women tips on how to behave during press interviews: "Don't chew gum"

9:00pm American Idol FOX - One contestant is eliminated, Mariah Carey performs, coincidentally, a day or so after her album is released.

9:30pm Scanners IFC - (1981) Great horror flick from the "Awesome '80s", with a fave of mine, Patrick McGoohan.

10:00pm Top Chef BRAVO - Time for a tailgate party and the development of a recipe that will perfectly offset a certain cocktail. Yum.

10:00pm The Real World: Hollywood MTV - Season Premiere. The 20th Season, no frickin' way.

10:30pm Lewis Black's Root of All Evil COMEDYCENTRAL - High School vs. American Idol. TV Junkie Pick O' The Night

12:35am Late Night With Conan O'Brien NBC - Jack Hannah wanna-be Jarod Miller, White House correspondent David Gregory, John Oliver!!!

The real world L.A. is going to be just like the other seasons. A hot Gay guy, 4 Hot country chicks, A hot Frat guy and a black guy. All of whom just want to get drunk and screw one another.

My roommates band has a song featured on the Real World season premiere tonight.

THE AUTOMATIC MUSIC EXPLOSION song "Our Generation" which was produced by Mike Chapman (Blondie, Pat Benatar, The Knack).

Kudos to you for mentioning The General. I work at a film school, and nobody knows what the hell I'm talking about when I mention that movie.

Oh, and Scanners...amazing. Head exploding fun.

THE AUTOMATIC MUSIC EXPLOSION is a really bad band name. You know that, dont you? Obviously not.

I didn't say I was in the band.

New South Park too - last week's was excellent. As much as I love Lewis Black and many of the comics who have appeared on Root of All Evil, I have to say this show is a failure... it's a shame because I really wanted it to be good but I canceled my Season Pass after the 3rd episode.

thanks for the opinion polariodgirl - I'm sticking with it for the time being. I love SP too but it's been around a while and I'd like to see some more non-animated series at Comedy Central succeed (if possible).

Cody! Silent film always amazes - my kids (3 and 6) love silent movies and are much more engaged with them compared to the crap on Nickelodeon

Tom, dont take offense to this (although you may anyway) Does it wonder you, that your 3 and 6 yr old watch silent films? Even more strange, are engaged by them?
