@ Elise But why not? If porn is part of the industry of LA - and LAist's mission is cover LA's industries - and you are going to cover the parties, why not cover it all? LAist interviews musicians and other actors and reviews concerts and cds. Just reviewing the porn parties and showing some party pictures without covering the rest, does seem a little opportunistic, in the fact that you get to put up some pics of porn stars, without actually talking about porn.

LAist covers "events" in Los Angeles. We may be covering a porn-release party, but that is not the same as covering porn. It is part of the diverse tapestry of LA (along with graffiti and marijuana). LA's seedy underbelly is not always attractve, but I don't think reporting on it lessens our credibility. We try to keep sex-related subjects to Saturdays when you are less likely to open them at work, and put all "nsfw" after the jump with a warning. We do not post reviews of porn movies, indepth interviews with porn stars, features like "Tonight in porn", "Get Your Porn On", or "The Neighborhood Project: Pornsville". Of course, I cannot predict the future.

porn is huge for our economy. LA is the porn capital of the world so it does have a great deal to do with the city. and i hear a lot of people watch porn so news on porn would be relevant.

LAist's continued coverage of the alt.porn industry is disturbing, vapid and more than a little tawdry. It also undermines this site's reputation as a viable source of information. If one stares into the abyss long enough, one becomes it.
