LAist Asks: Who is this Street Artist?

Stuck in traffic down Laurel Canyon Blvd. this weekend on the metropolitan side of the hill, we took note of this stencil, below. We can't identify the artist, can you? It looks like Bansky, but sources say no. Blek le Rat was in town, but that's not his. Herakut just opened their show this weekend, but Carmichael Gallery of Contemporary Art owner Seth Carmichael says it was not them and that he noticed this piece a couple weeks ago. So, dear readers, can you help? Comment below if you know or can add any tips, other sightings, etc.

"It looks like Banksy"

no, no it doesn't.

Yeah, it kinda looks like crap. Sorry.

looks like shit to me...

why are you such an advocate of graffitti?

why don't you call the graffitti removal hotline and have that aesthically unpleasing shit removed instead of wasting time with this?

Dont hate, participate.......

ben= what makes banksy such a better artist compared to the one who had done the grafitti in the picture shown?

when i think of people who love banksy, reminds me of people who were che guevara shirts, love catcher in the rye, hate no country for old men, etc etc.

not that banksy is terrible, i find his work enjoyable but...

the people who fawn over him remind me of the kind of hipsters described in an essay here a while back...

Banksy is great because of his humor, not because it's graffiti.

While I think this is a half-hearted copycat, I love Banksy and I've never had a Che Guevara shirt, I don't love Catcher in the Rye, and I DID love No Country For Old Men. Just to make a point...

the artist is crazy talented. saw some more work along la brea...the chickens with their heads cut off.

i said the people who love banksy remind me of those other types of people...not that they necessarily do the same thing

and i do think banksy does a fine job at what he does, but its just one of those things where the fame brings the good/bad fans. i was at a gallery a couple days ago where i encountered a few people like this so it was on my mind.

Schimonie... Copy-cat.... Are we saying anything sprayed is a copy-cat of Banksy? Surely there is talent stateside... Lovin the work!

I think this cat is talented as hell! All these people rip each other off even banksy copied off another dude but he flipped it. Everybody sees things differently. What makes you stop and look and go "Damn thats ill!". I say were in a new age of art and movies people are expressing themselves with a camera, brush or spray can. So shut the fuck up you haters! Take the leap get out there and take a chance like this cat. Ask yourself are YOU a risk taker or just talk shit to people who are. Remember we fear only that which we have not experienced.
