Pencil This In: Saturday

GRAFFITI
German graffiti artists, known as Herakut, takes over the walls of Carmichael Gallery starting tonight. The artists will be there celebrating their first show stateside. Open bar.

DRIVE-IN
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is shown tonight on a giant wall while you sit in your car eating Weenez corn dogs and popcorn. L.A.’s newest drive-in, the Angel City Drive-In, features Astroturf for sitting, DJ’s for dancing before and after the movie, as well as Angel City Derby girls roller blading around serving you food.

ART
Art space, café, and boutique, Royal/T in Culver City has it all. RSVP to attend the reopening tonight with a special exhibit entitled “Gothic Lolita”, a Japanese street-fashion craze. Photographer Masayuki Yoshinaga will be signing copies of his book while you enjoy the art and DJ’s through out the night. Also showing is an exhibit entitled “Just Love Me” featuring over 30 artists’ Japanese pop-art inspired work.

STAGE
The physical theater piece, “Aurelia’s Oratoria” takes the stage for the last time tonight at UCLA. The group combines fantasy, illusion, and whimsical set design, to capture the audience for this one of a kind show.

FILM
The eight-week film program, “The Cronenberg Retrospective” begins tonight with a free showing of Dead Ringers. The film also celebrates it’s 20th anniversary.

PLAY
Is it acceptable to break the rules of common ethics to ultimately end in a better state of being? Well, Sophocles’ Philoktetes asks that question. The play, directed by Michael Hackett and Henry Goodman is performed at the Getty Villa this afternoon.
