Great post Malingering. I've always felt the same way but not very good at posting them.

Sorry to offend a certain group that attends Dodgers games but it does happen as posted and it really takes the fun out of the baseball experience.

I attended the recent Coliseum Red Sox/Dodgers game and it was the same thing. Since there were pre-game festivities and tailgating you can imagine how stupid A LOT of the Dodgers fans were. Some how they were mainly comprised of a certain group and I hate to say it, but the generalization is true.

And you're right, it IS getting expensive. The price of tickets went up by $5 in every section, and Dodger Dogs went up to $5. So you think for a family of four (and these families were MUCH larger than 4) sitting in reserve level, it's:

$80 for the tickets
$40 for ONE soda and hot dog each
$24 for ONE 24 ounce beer for each parent
$15 for parking

$159 to spend the evening with a bunch of assholes is sort of a lot

Phooey On You Too has won the award for best comment AND for best reading comprehension.

If I'm going to buy three tickets for a baseball game (NOT a beachball game. I'll go to the BEACH for those) I would sure as hell hope that people in the area I'm sitting in would be considerate and would watch the game as I'm trying to. Wanna get drunk and be stupid? Do it at home - it's cheaper (or as Phooey says, be a nice drunk. Nice drunks are a lot of fun).

It all comes down to being considerate. If you wouldn't want someone to do it to you (stand in front of you, pour beer on your head, throw distracting beachballs around), then don't do it yourself.

Here's the thing - if I take my kid to the game, do I want him to be subjected to moronic behavior of people who don't know how to behave in public? No. And do I want to PAY for this honor? Absolutely not.

If I pay good money to see a baseball game, I want to see the baseball game. The entertainment is supposed to be the game, not the assholish behavior in the stands.

It amazes me how some people continue to spout off at the mouth without first reading what it is that they are commenting about.

I haven't been to Dodger Stadium in over 10 years, but I recall that it was clean and the fans were decent then. I was able to sit through an entire game (granted it was an afternoon game) without any major interruptions. Apparently, things change and not always for the better.

Phooey On You Too hit the nail squarely on the head - people pay good money to go see a baseball game. If you don't want to actually watch the game, why the hell are you there?

Great write up, Malingering. Maybe some fans will finally get the message. Understanding human nature, though, I doubt it.

First of all, for those of you who have commented that Malingering doesn't know how to have fun, I recommend that you pick out a big promotion night (cap day or beanie night, for instance) and go sit in Reserve level. And pick a spot that's near about 50 small children with little adult supervision. Then come back and let us all know how that went for you.

Until then, keep these points in mind:

1. We baseball fans have nothing against drinking, we're just against those that get so completely shitfaced that they start being mean to complete strangers. It's just not nice in any situation. If you're going to be drunk, be a nice drunk. Dance and entertain the crowd.

2. This is a stadium, not a beach. If you want to play with beach balls, go there. When a game has to be stopped because there's a ball on the field, it's disrespectful to the game and the players.

3. Please feel free to bring your kids, but don't use the game as a babysitter. Teach them about the glory of the game and maybe a few more Dodger fans will be born.

4. And lastly, just try to remember that there are 50,000 other people there. If you stand up, try to remember that you're probably blocking someone's view of the game. You wouldn't appreciate it if you paid to come to a game and couldn't see what was going on.

While I appreciate your assistance on buying tickets and all, if anyone read the post I thought it was pretty clear that I have season seats for some games but not all, and this was one of those games. So I was forced to buy tickets later and this is what I ended up with. Read. Then comment. In that order.

this is why i HATE HATE fucking HATE going to Dodger stadium. This same thing has happened one too many times there and I wont go back anymore. its more of a hassle than a good time. ive been to several ball parks and Dodger Stadium is by far the worst place to see a game. not the park, not the team, but the people who fill it.

I'm with you on this one. I've been a Dodger fan since I was 3 years old and find it extremely annoying attending a Dodger game. I was one of the few people attending games when the franchise was regrouping after winning the WS in 1988 and it was easy to buy a ticket for any game I wanted to attend. Thanks to the juiced up Sosa and McGwire for bringing all the bandwagon jumpers and drawing the riftrats to the ballpark. I'm a baseball fan period. I attend baseball games because I LOVE baseball and second to watch the my Dodgers play. I also find it annoying when I can't watch the game or I'm forced to listen to some idiot talking on their cellphone the entire time they are at the ballpark. Why attend if you're not there to watch the game and support your favorite team?

To some people it may sound like some of us are killjoys, but the truth is that I'm such a huge Dodger fan that I've flown from San Francisco to LA to attend baseball games. I pay the huge ticket price to attend a game at an old stadium, plus my flight and expenses from traveling to watch Russell Martin and the gang. I would appreciate not having to deal with people who only attend games to get drunk, obnoxious, annoy people or not have to watch their children. Is that too much to ask? I think NOT!!!

If you're that into the game, and not interested in partaking in the atmosphere of it, there's this magical box that receives signals from a magic wand attached to the back of it that can somehow show us what's happening on the field. In principle, it works like a crystal ball. You can come over and try this amazing feat of sorcery if you want.

Actually, Carrie, according to Jonathan Gold, bowls of dicks aren't that bad as long as they are braised and properly seasoned. Not HUMAN dicks of course. Not unless there was a plane crash in the Andes.

Nice post, Mal. I love the "Have you ever been to a Dodger game before?" question. Have you counted? Like a million?

While the isolated few who cause fights, yell profanities, or are otherwise obnoxious should be escorted out of the stadium, complaining about beach balls, standing up, the wave, concession lines, and people walking in the aisle is a bit silly. It's a baseball game. Relax and have a good time. If you really want a great, unobstructed view, do your homework, find where the good seats are, and buy your seats early. Go to the ticket window in person and chat about the seat options, they're very friendly.

Um, you do see the irony in this statement, right?

And to PinLA, yes, I've been to a Dodger game before. I went to 43 last season. They are not all like this. Not even close.

This is exactly the kind of passive negative BS that makes going to concerts and sporting events in LA painful. Nobody knows how to loosen up and have a good time.

Sporting events aren't supposed to be like going to a funeral. OK some people act stupid in public. Go get a beer and deal with it.

Or ... Stay home next time and stop ruining it for people who are trying to have a good time (even though if their idea of 'good time' may be different than yours).

""If they ever have the promotion "No Mexican's Night" then I will go to see the "Yawdger'z" Until then I could give a toss....."

I actually find this funny since so many people know not to use Mexican as it only accounts for a small percentage of the people in the Los Angeles Community(relative people from all countries) and angers so many people, so in a way, this is better than being politically correct. Sometimes an uninformed racist is better than an informed one.

I was waiting for the mexican bash post. for the record there are idiots at the stadium in every section of all colors, economic background, neighborhood, etc.

who's more annoying the cholo who drank a six pack before the game and yells "giants suck" even when we're not even playing the giants, or the yuppie douchebag behind home plate who insists on being on his cell the whole game to tell his other yuppie buddies to watch him on the ol' tv?

tough call

Beach balls ARE fun at a game. Maybe not getting hit with one.

And you went to Dodger Stadium on a Fridy night and are complaining about the people and their behavior? Seriously? Have you ever been to a Dodger game before?

One tip that I may offer - if you don't want people walking up and down in front of you - DON'T SIT ON THE ISLE!!!

Some nice pics, though.

I feel your pain. i love the dodgers and dodger stadium but hate 90% of the fans. I've popped many beach balls in my time, once had the whole section booing me and throwing crap at me after I did it (I've recently slowed down on my beach ball popping habit, for safety reasons.) as sad as it is, you really have to pay for a little better seat to try to actually watch the game, it's just a fact. pay $35 from a scapler for the club level seats, small section, good views, no lines, and easier to watch the game. there are plenty of people in the top deck who want to watch the game, but the majority are the people in the photos above, who would rather try intimidate a dude and his date, or a family, or wear enough dodger gear to supply the actual team, but they couldn't tell you who was pitching that night or who the biggest waste of space on the roster is. (everyone knows it's a toss up between Schmidt, pierre, and Andruuuw making a good case to be thrown in there.)

Yikes, looks like a nightmare! Inconsiderate people and unsupervised children (adults?) - two things I hate most about public sporting events. It's one thing to have a fun and relaxed environment, it's another when common courtesy flies out the window.

I can't get my wife to go to dodger games anymore. The last time we went, we asked the row of gang-bangery teenagers in front of us to please sit down after three innings of standing. One of the guys said, "F*ck you, dude" and they kept standing. An inning later a security guard came by and found they had smuggled their own beer into the game. He took half the people away while the rest suspected we'd turned them in and started spiking beach balls at us. We left for fear of our own safety.

Good times.

I wonder about pAwonder's logic...he makes a valid point that it is a baseball game, then his brain starts leaking.

People should be able to see a baseball game when they go to a baseball stadium--duh. People should be aware that they are not the only ones in the universe or not the only ones at the game so they should not traipse up and down the aisles during play. It is simple social responsibility, simple courtesy.

And simple logic.

The last time I went to a game I brought a book with me.

Strangely enough that was the last time my boyfriend(now ex, go figure) ever made me go to a baseball game.

Baseball free since 2003! (ok, 2006, but 2003 rhymes better)

Really? Its a baseball game, not the library. Or LACMA. Why are you such a boring killjoy? If you're looking for a place without kids, or beer, or drunk stupid guys, or messing around, I wouldn't go to a baseball game if I were you. I guess I would go to Starbucks or something.
