I'm pretty sure that the menu you link to is still the old menu from the Soul Vegetarian restaurant... unless they're now still serving the exact same stuff. Not that I would complain... it was all delicious!

Vegan soul food has a certain appeal as well since most of the traditional southern soul food dishes have some kind of meat in it. Greens, beans, black eyed peas. All of the traditional recipes have either bacon ends, ham trimmings, or ham hocks in it. One greens fan I know who has to watch his cholesterol makes his greens with smoked turkey wings, but that's still not vegan. You have to make certain adjustments when cooking vegan food, and that takes trial and error experience.

Ross, looks like they posted a menu that you can download at the bottom of this page... http://www.therealsoulfood.com/ This is only a 20 minute bus ride from me. I'm def going to try it!

Never in my life did I ever think I'd hear the words "Nitzer Ebb" and "karaoke" used in the same sentence! As for the awesome vegan soul food... I can't wait to try this place. Soul Vegetarian was delicious so it's great news to learn that they've got the same cook.

What a utopia -- a club, mens' discussion space, home for folks with substance use problems (previously temp home for folks living with HIV/AIDS), medical clinic, acupuncture and other therapies, community center, and now a vegan restaurant. damn wonderful!

Vegetarian BBQ ribs? Looks interesting. The one at the top in the pic looks like the kind of tamale pie, my ex-wife used to make, only with texturized soy protein, ( i assume), in place of gound beef (mmmmm).

Thank goodness. That area needs healthy alternatives. i can't wait to check it out. james
