DVD Tuesday: There Will Be Blood

If you somehow missed There Will Be Blood in theaters, pick up the DVD today and watch one of our finest actors give his finest performance. Nothing more really needs to be said. Walk Hard got knocked around at the box office over Christmas, but I really liked it. For any fan of the Apatow brand, it's a no-brainer buy. Male nudity has never been funnier and the songs are the best since Bigger, Longer & Uncut. Reservation Road and Lions for Lambs both had top-drawer casts and the imprimatur of quality. Both were also awfully dull. Tom Cruise takes another step down from his previous perch of box office invincibility.

As a child of the Jaws generation, the welfare of sharks never rated very high on my empathy meter. That changed after seeing Rob Stewart's remarkable Sharkwater. Not only is the underwater photography amazing, but the advocacy of the film is powerful and worthy of your attention. Bette Davis would probably never make it in today's Hollywood. See why she made it in the Tinseltown of yore with a new collection of some her classic roles. Charlie Wilson's War was a decent movie made better by a superb performance from Philip Seymour Hoffman. It doesn't hold a candle, though, to this doc from the History Channel.
